Tennis star Andy Murray helped design the tennis kit he wore at Wimbledon last June. Though founded as a sports brand, the Fred Perry polo shirt, with its signature laurel logo, has been worn by everyone from mods to skinheads since the 1950s. Fred Perry celebrity fans include Paul Weller and Peter Doherty.  

The Crandon Park Tennis Center is actually the third home of the Sony Ericsson Open . When former pro-tennis-player-turned-promoter Butch Buchholz first organized the event, he held it in Delray Beach and Boca Raton . He brought in Alan Mills , then tournament referee at Wimbledon , as head referee, and Ted Tinling , a top tennis fashion designer of the 1920s, as director of protocol.  

Incumbent John Lloyd is considering his future in the role after becoming the first GB captain to oversee five successive defeats when his side lost to Lithuania last weekend. e/Africa Zone Group III, the lowest tier of the competition, and prompted calls for change within the team. Henman, however, has ruled himself out of taking on the captain's role, although the 35-year-old admitted he would one day like to lead his country. "Maybe in three years or in 13 years, sometime in the future, I might be interested in being the Davis Cup captain," the former world No4 explained.

I always look forward to coming to England to play at The Queen's Club and Wimbledon but this year there is even more motivation because I could not defend my titles last year   -Rafael Nadal

 

In the last year, Mario Ancic has been both a commerce lawyer in Zagreb, Croatia, and a tennis player. He prefers the outdoor courts to the indoor ones. Ancic, 25, who was a Wimbledon semifinalist in 2004, missed most of last year after being diagnosed with mononucleosis that had first been diagnosed as a bad flu in 2008.

FORMER Wimbledon winner Pat Cash believes Dan Cox does have a Davis Cup future despite missing out on the first clash of the year through injury. The 19-year-old saw his hopes of earning a maiden call-up for the weekend's Europe/Africa Zone Group Two match with Lithuania dashed following a reoccurrence of tendonitis in his right wrist. As a result, former British junior number one Dan Evans headed up a relatively inexperienced team, including debutant James Ward and Jamie Baker alongside doubles specialists Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski.

There is still a chance for Dan to get into the Davis Cup team and really stand up   -Pat Cash

 

1999 finalist Carlos Moya rolled back the years as he began the Indian Wells Masters with a 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5) win over American Tim Smyczek Thursday. The Spaniard took over the ATP-number-one ranking 11 years ago thanks to a semi-final victory against Gustavo Kuerten in the desert. Moya is playing the event for the first time since 2008 after undergoing shoulder surgery and coming through a difficult rehab process.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won his second straight Laureus Sportsman of the Year award Wednesday and American tennis player Serena Williams won the women's prize for the second time. Bolt won three gold medals at last year's world championships and set world records in the 100 and 200-meter races. Williams won the Australian Open and Wimbledon and regained the No 1 ranking.

Music fans and comedy lovers are applauding the return of Wimbledon's biggest arts festival. The annual Cannizaro Park Festival was dropped in 2009 after the company behind the event said it had become too expensive to run. But this week a new organisation, Wimbledon event management company BHL, confirmed it would resurrect the summer celebration this year.
